Let me change your mind if you just answered yes to that question.

First things first…makeup wipes don’t actually clean your skin.

Yes, they’re convenient, but think about it — they smear around whatever makeup, dirt, and dead skin is hanging out on your face, leaving a trail of irritated skin in their wake.

Face wipes are harsh on the skin because they contain strong, drying chemicals that strip the skin of its natural oils. This alters the pH of your acid mantle, which can cause inflammation and serious irritation. Those of you who’ve heard me talk about compromising your barrier — this is it.

Further — don’t even use them to remove your mascara. You absolutely do NOT want to exfoliate your delicate eye tissue.

Makeup wipes can cause micro-tears in your skin that can advance the aging process (this is also why us pros don’t want you to use harsh facial scrubs like St. Ives Apricot Scrub – hands and feet only!) so using them on your delicate eye tissue is essentially inviting fine lines and wrinkles to join the party much earlier than they would otherwise.
